Having worked on numerous projects with Dreweatts over the past 20 years, Alban Shipping was asked to transport Pete Waterman’s £1 million collection of fine scratch-built model trains to Mallett of Mayfair for auction. As the models also needed to be displayed impactfully for viewing and sale, Alban Shipping were also asked to provide a solution for this.

We examined the models and proposed custom wooden cases for transportation, with each model secured to prevent friction or damage in transit. We also proposed custom-built plinths to display the models prior to and during the auction. Timescales took into account setting up the display in advance of the pre-auction viewing period.
Wooden cases were created to transport all 56 models, with custom rails and padded batons being used to secure the models against movement. The models were transported on one of Alban Shipping’s dedicated vehicles with a team of 6 experienced art and antique handlers who also set up the display at the Mallett showroom. Using specialist platforms and pump trucks, the team carefully arranged each of the models on custom built and painted plinths.
